Keep Calm and Carry On

My husband and I have developed a weekly rotation of TV shows. Now that we have passed sweeps, that schedule is breaking. One show that I really got into this past season is Being Erica, which CBC aired the season finale this past Tuesday night. Fingers crossed they pick it up again next year.

The show’s writing and pacing is engaging and intelligent — the premise is simple: a 30 something single gal, who’s lived enough to have some regrets and doesn’t quite know how to live her life. She’s given the opportunity to go back in time (and for that matter, into the future, and revisit these regrets via ‘therapy’ and through that explores what it means to be family, pursue career, have meaningful relationships and friends.

I guess it helps that ‘Erica’ is the same age as me and that location that the show is shot, Toronto, where I attended high school and some university. And I also like that despite stumbling about in life, Erica maintains a killer dress collection. Where does she shop?!

In the last episode, which dealt with decision-making, which in Erica’s case covered some biggies (boyfriend, career) there’s a brief moment where the camera lingers briefly on a poster similar to this one… keep calm and carry on. (The story behind the poster, in case you are not familiar with it is described in this Wikipedia entry.) For the stylist’s part, that was I think, a subtly clever way of reinforcing the story.

Anyway, check it out!
